CBD also interacts with other receptor proteins not directly related to the ECS, such as the serotonin receptor 5-HT1A and vanilloid receptor TRPV1. Any potential anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties of CBD could stem from the activation of these additional biological pathways.
You can consume CBD oil sublingually by placing a few drops of CBD under your tongue and rubbing it into the tissue there with your tongue or finger for at least 30 seconds to a minute before swallowing. This will allow the mucous membranes in your mouth to absorb the CBD, partially bypassing the digestive system and liver, for much quicker entry into the bloodstream. Effects may be felt within seconds. Just like when you ingest THC edibles though, you’ll get a second onset of effects a couple of hours later when the CBD that wasn’t absorbed sublingually makes it through your digestive system.

For those worried about THC showing up in their system, look for broad-spectrum oil or products that contain pure CBD isolate. Broad-spectrum oil, as opposed to full-spectrum oil, is refined to exclude the trace amounts of THC that may have been present in the hemp plant. Products with CBD isolate contain no THC or other plant-based cannabinoids. To find high-quality CBD, search for products that come with a certificate of analysis from a third-party testing lab to ensure that the information listed on the product label is accurate. Be careful not to confuse hemp seed oil or hemp oil, which seldom contain any CBD at all, with CBD oil. These products will provide a hearty dose of omega-3 fatty acids, but they won’t provide any potential pain-relieving or anti-anxiety effects.

Placing a few drops under the tongue introduces CBD to the bloodstream quickly. The area beneath the tongue, or the sublingual area, is full of blood vessels and the tissue covering them is very thin allowing CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream almost immediately. Effects are generally felt quickly, making tinctures an ideal treatment for anxiety and other mood disorders. Many users report long-lasting effects from regular ingestion of tinctures.
Taking CBD through a vape pen is the quickest way to feel the effects.
CBD is both versatile and effective in managing a multitude of conditions. The fact that it’s available in several different forms allows you to tailor your treatment to your specific condition.
People who live with anxiety or panic disorders may benefit from carrying a vape pen. The rapid onset makes them a great choice to use as a rescue when feelings of anxiety or panic surface.
There are a couple different types of vapes available, pen-style and tank-style, and while the mechanism in each works differently, the gist is the same. CBD extract is heated to become a vapor, then inhaled. Inhalation introduces cannabidiol directly into the bloodstream through your lungs, resulting in rapid, almost instant, onset of effect. This method is ideal for people with acute conditions who need the effects immediately.
Since edibles must first pass through your digestive system in order for CBD to absorb into the bloodstream, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how long you’ll feel the effect of a CBD edible. Science tells us that it can take anywhere from 6 to 8 hours to breakdown food in the stomach and small intestine and absorb its nutrients.
If you ingest a CBD edible, the effects may last this long, but likely won’t be initiated until an hour or so after eating it. Also, there isn’t always a definitive result when using CBD products since they lack the psychoactive effects of THC. You won’t feel high from eating a CBD edible, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t working. Some people do experience a sense of calm or relaxation, but responses can differ from person to person.
Different types of edibles
For those that have already been exposed to CBD and avidly use it, you’ve most likely found a CBD dosage that works best for you. You’ve made it through the trial and error phase, and can use your typical dose of CBD to determine what kind of edible is best suited for you.
When it comes to edibles, certain factors can alter the amount of time the CBD is effective, including:
Before we dive into the effects of CBD, it’s necessary to outline the importance of potency. Different products will contain varying amounts of CBD, which plays a role in the efficacy of an edible. Gummies are a popular and easy method of CBD ingestion, but there may be only 5 milligrams of CBD in one gummy, compared to a cake pop that contains 30 milligrams. This doesn’t mean that the stronger edible is the better choice, but that you should take CBD potency into consideration before deciding on a product.
